Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), wrote: "24 deaths including 12 newborn babies in 24 hours in a government hospital in Nanded not only due to lack of supply of medicine by the state government."

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) working president Supriya Sule also said the deaths were certainly not coincidences and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.

"In the last 24 hours, 24 people, including 12 newborns, died in a government hospital in Nanded. These deaths are certainly not coincidences. Each of these deaths needs to be thoroughly investigated. If there are so many deaths in one day, it is expected that the Chief Minister and the system will order an immediate inquiry considering its seriousness," Sule wrote on X.

"Due to a shortage of medicines in the hospital, it is alleged that the patients did not get the medicines on time. Does this mean that the lives of the people of Maharashtra have become so cheap? This shows a case of delay and neglect and strict action is required," She added.

Bringing attention to the matter, Sule asked for Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's immediate intervention. Adding that she also stated that the families of the deceased should also get compensation. Condolences to the families of all these deceased and heartfelt tributes to those who lost their lives.

Dr Dilip Mhaisekar, Director of Medical Education and Research, in Maharashtra also confirmed the death toll reported in Nanded Hospital today.

"In the last 24 hours, 24 deaths have been reported at Nanded Government Hospital and Medical College (GMCH). Out of these, 12 are infants who were referred here by some local private hospitals. The remaining deaths are of adults for various reasons," Mhaisekar told PTI.
