A massive protest broke out in Maharashtra's Parbhani district after an individual allegedly insulted the Constitution of India. The protesters demanded strict punishment for the accused, leading to widespread violence across the district.

The accused, identified as 45-year-old Sopan Dattarao Pawar, allegedly tore a replica of the Constitution placed in front of a statue of Dr. Babasaheb Rao Ambedkar in Parbhani city on Tuesday evening.

A statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar stands prominently in front of the Collector's office in Parbhani city, with a replica of the Constitution displayed nearby. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM on Tuesday when a miscreant damaged the replica, triggering outrage among local residents, as per Jagran sources.

News of the incident spread rapidly, sparking protests and prompting a citywide bandh (shutdown). Protesters are demanding strict punishment for the accused, including capital punishment. The unrest escalated in several areas, leading to incidents of violence, stone-pelting, and vandalism. Shops and vehicles were set on fire, and the police had to use tear gas to control the situation. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Prakash Ambedkar, President of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) and grandson of Dr B.R Ambedkar, strongly condemned the incident. He stated, "The vandalization of the Constitution of India at Babasaheb's statue by casteist Maratha miscreants in Parbhani is absolutely shameful. This is not the first time such vandalism of Babasaheb's statue or symbols of Dalit identity has occurred. VBA Parbhani District karyakartas were the first to reach the scene, and their protests led to the filing of an FIR and the arrest of one miscreant."

Prakash Ambedkar also urged VBA workers to maintain peace and follow the law but issued a stern warning: "If all the miscreants are not arrested within the next 24 hours, consequences will follow."
