Senior Samajwadi Party leader (SP) Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan have suffered a major legal setback in the two PAN card cases. The MP-MLA Sessions Court in Rampur on Saturday delivered a verdict while hearing the prosecution’s appeal for stricter punishment. The court increased Azam Khan’s jail term and enhanced the fines imposed on both father and son.
Rampur Court Increases Azam Khan’s Jail Term
According to IANS report, the court increased Azam Khan’s prison sentence from seven years to 10 years. In addition, the fine imposed on him was raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh. The revised punishment is being viewed as a significant blow to the SP leader, who is already facing multiple legal cases.
Meanwhile, the court decided not to alter Abdullah Azam Khan’s seven-year jail term and allowed it to remain unchanged. However, the fine imposed on him was increased substantially from Rs 50,000 to Rs 3.5 lakh.
BJP MLA Reacts To Verdict
Reacting to the verdict in the two PAN card cases, BJP MLA Akash Kumar Saxena said the court’s decision was “historic” and unprecedented. He stated that this was the first such case in India where an appeal was filed seeking enhancement of punishment and the court subsequently increased the sentence.
