Malegaon Blast Verdict: The verdict on the Malegaon blast came as a rude shock for the victims' kin as the special court acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Purohit. The shocking turnout of the case prompted a reaction from the political fraternity. The case is not detached from politics, as during the UPA regime, several top Congress leaders termed it a result of 'Hindu terror', drawing sharp reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Soon after the court acquitted all the accused, the political reactions started pouring in.

BJP Seeks Apology From Congress Leaders

After the court's verdict, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya wrote on Instagram, "A Hindu can never be a terrorist. Congress created a false narrative of saffron terrorism and imposed fake cases on innocent people only for vote bank politics."

"It is clear that Congress had hatched a conspiracy. Leaders like Sonia Gandhi, P Chidambaram and Sushilkumar Shinde should apologise to Hindus for defaming Sanatan Dharma. Sanatan Dharma is sacred. A Hindu cannot be a terrorist. Say with pride that we are Hindus," he asserted in the social media post.

'Who Killed Six Malegaon Victims?'

On the other hand, Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of AIMIM and MP from Hyderabad, expressed his disappointment over the verdict, asking who killed six people in Malegaon.

He wrote a post on X saying, "The verdict in the Malegaon blast case is disappointing. Six Namazis were killed and about 100 injured in the blast. They were targeted because of their religion. Deliberately shoddy investigation/prosecution is responsible for the acquittals."

Owaisi further wrote, "17 years after the blast, the court has acquitted all the accused due to lack of evidence. Will the Modi and Fadnavis governments appeal against this verdict, just as they demanded a stay on the acquittal of the accused in the Mumbai train blasts? Will the "secular" political parties of Maharashtra demand accountability? Who killed those six people?"

"Karkare (Hemant Kamlakar Karkare, the Mumbai ATS chief) had exposed the conspiracy in Malegaon and was unfortunately killed by Pakistani terrorists in the 26/11 attacks. BJP MP publicly said that he had cursed Karkare and his death was the result of that curse. Will NIA/ATS officials be held accountable for their flawed investigation? I think we know the answer. This is the "tough on terror" Modi government. The world will remember that it made a terror accused an MP."

Who Were The Accused In The Case?

The NIA named seven accused in the case, including Thakur, Purohit, Major (retired) Ramesh Upadhyay, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Dwivedi, Sudhakar Chaturvedi and Sameer Kulkarni. They were all charged for committing a terrorist act under provisions of the UAPA and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
