Bengal Polls: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by claiming that it was committing fraud to win the elections. While addressing a crowd in Bangaon, she reiterated that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls was being conducted to remove the voters of marginalised communities. The chief minister asserted that she will launch a campaign against the BJP in the whole country if the voters' names are deleted from the list. She emphasised that the saffron party will lose the next Gujarat Assembly election (home state of PM Modi) if it "continues to commit fraud".
"I am making this prediction...the BJP is going to be defeated in Gujarat. To win Bengal they will lose Gujarat," Banerjee stated while addressing the anti-SIR protest. She further questioned the reasons behind conducting the SIR just before the Assembly elections by adding that she would have cooperated if the revision process had been conducted properly.

"Why is the SIR being carried out so hurriedly? Why is the SIR being carried out before elections? Take three years and we will help you," the chief minister stated.
Banerjee also pointed out that the home ministry was responsible if the illegal immigrants were residing in the border districts, further assuring the voters that she will not let the names be deleted. "If there really have been illegal immigrants staying in border districts all this time, then I want to ask who is responsible for guarding the international border?" the chief minister asked.
"Airports and customs are all under control of the central government, but till I am here, I will not allow them to throw you out," she added. The Assembly election in West Bengal is set to be conducted in the early months of 2026. While the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) will contest to repeat its government, the BJP will try to form its own government in Bengal for the first time.
