A 63-year-old man was cheated of Rs 2.25 crore by two men who deceived him with promises of securing a seat in the Rajya Sabha. Police disclosed on Monday that one of the suspects has been apprehended, while the other is currently in custody. The victim, identified as a social worker, fell prey to the scam orchestrated by the fraudsters, who even went to the extent of forging the President of India's signature to gain his trust.

The incident was brought to the attention of the authorities on April 25 when the victim restrained one of the conmen at a banquet hall in Adhchini, before lodging a formal complaint with the Kishangarh police station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Rohit Meena elaborated on the case, revealing that the victim had encountered a man named Nanak Dass at a residence in Vithal Bhai Patel House, where he was introduced to Naveen Kumar, who impersonated a protocol officer to the President of India.

The fraudulent duo, operating under the guise of facilitating the victim's nomination to the Rajya Sabha, conducted several meetings with him at various locations, including government residences and private properties. To further deceive the victim, they presented him with a forged birthday letter purportedly signed by the President.

Subsequently, the fraudsters demanded a sum of Rs 5 crore from the victim to secure the Rajya Sabha seat, of which Rs 1.25 crore was paid to Kumar and Rs 1 crore to Dass. However, once the money exchanged hands, the culprits severed all communication with the victim.

Realising he had been duped, the victim devised a plan to apprehend the suspects and succeeded in physically restraining Kumar at the Adhchini banquet hall. The police were promptly alerted, leading to Kumar's arrest.

Further investigations led to the apprehension of Dass in Delhi. Both suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, with Dass held in custody but is yet to be arrested.
