Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday intensified its enforcement drive in South Delhi as it started a massive drive in Hauz Khas Village and Saidulajab for unauthorised commercial establishments.

With heavy police security, the MCD sealed a few shops, food courts, restaurants and commercial shops that were believed to be running without approval. A residential house was also sealed and locked in the operation by MCD officials.

As per the information, at least 10 properties in total have been identified for sealing so far. Four MCD teams comprising multiple junior and assistant engineers have been deployed for the sealing exercise.

"Two buildings have already been sealed in the Hauz Khas Village, six buildings have been identified in Saidulajab and will be sealed today, and a few other buildings will be sealed in nearby areas," PTI quoted a senior MCD official.

"Identified unauthorised establishments near Hauz Rani area, where the fire incident took place, will be sealed soon, and we are waiting for their bed-and-breakfast licences to be revoked," he added.

The crackdown comes days after a deadly fire at a bed-and-breakfast facility in Delhi's Malviya Nagar exposed multiple violations, including the absence of sanctioned building plans and operations beyond permitted capacity.

The Delhi government on Thursday formed district-level and subdivision-level committees, which would identify buildings flouting fire and building norms and initiate action against them.

The committees that have been formed comprise district magistrates, MCD officials, representatives from the police, along with officers from the fire department and have been asked to undertake inspections throughout the city. The team on Thursday launched a joint anti-illegal-parking drive at 6 multi-level parking hubs, including Kamla Nagar, GK-I, and Hauz Khas.
