The Supreme Court on Monday revoked the suspension of NCP MP Mohammed Faizal while staying the Kerala High Court order, which declined relief to the Lakshadweep MP in a 2009 murder attempt case, ANI reported. The Apex court, while staying the Kerala HC order, said, "The interim order passed by this Court in favour of the petitioner in remand order is made operational."

On August 22, the top court asked the High Court to reconsider Faizal’s plea while mentioning that the benefit of the suspension of conviction order would continue for Faizal till the HC decides it again. Thus Mohammed Faizal will continue to serve as an MP.

Faizal sought suspension of his conviction in an attempt to murder case but his plea was turned down by the Kerala High Court. He was disqualified from the Lok Sabha owing to the court order. He moved the Supreme Court against the order which reinstated his MP status.

This was the second instance when clouds of danger loomed over the MP status of Faizal. In January this year, he was disqualified from the lower house of Parliament, over his conviction in a case along with four others for an attempt to murder.

His disqualification, however, was revoked in March after his conviction was stayed by the Kerala High Court. But the Supreme Court remanded the matter back to the High Court to consider it afresh.

The Kavaratti Sessions Court earlier convicted Faizal and four other persons in an attempt to murder case. As per the prosecution, Faizal with a few people attacked one Salih after a dispute erupted over constructing a shed.
