Bhojshala-Mosque Controversy: Namaz and Saraswati Puja at the Bhojashala in Dhar will take place together on Friday after 10 years, as per the direction of the Supreme Court of India. The apex court on Thursday granted permission to the Hindu community to offer prayers from sunrise to sunset on Basant Panchami at the disputed Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque, while permitting Muslims to offer namaz from 1 pm to 3 pm.

The Maa Vagdevi puja has already begun at the location from sunrise. Namaz by the Muslim community will be offered in the Bhojshala premises from 1 pm to 3 pm. The Supreme Court order states that the events of both communities must take place at separate locations within the complex.

Puja and Namz will proceed without hindrance, and a separate designated area has been provided for the Muslim community. The administration conducted its own survey to identify this location and also obtained a map from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Meetings were held with both sides.

According to Collector Priyank Mishra, if the communities do not agree mutually on the location of prayer, the local administration retains the authority to finalise the place.

Shobha Yatra Scheduled

A Shobha Yatra was scheduled to begin at 10:30 from Lalbagh in the city and proceed to Bhojshala. A dharma sabha is scheduled for 12:15 pm, with prominent speakers.

Massive Security Arrangements In Place At Bhojshala

Around 8,000 police personnel have been deployed across the district, including more than 1,000 women police officers. Thirteen IPS officers are overseeing security, supported by 25 additional officers at the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police. A total of 107 inspectors and sub-inspectors, along with 393 other personnel, are on duty, reported Jagran.com.

What Is Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque Dispute

The controversy began in 1893, when ASI’s German Indologist noticed sutras on the pillar but could not produce evidence.

Former convenor of Hindu Jagaran Manch’s Indore division, Radheshyam Yadav, claimed that there are several studies indicates that the Bhojshala complex, including the Vagdevi temple, existed centuries before the Kamal Maula Mosque. As per his claims, the mosque was built by dismantling the temple.

“Muslims refer to an ASI survey of Bhojshala in 1902-03 and ask why there should be a fresh study. Today, we have technology and scientific techniques that were not available then. This survey, along the lines of Gyanvapi and Ayodhya, will help reveal the truth about Bhojshala,” he said.

Dhar Shahar Qazi Sadiq countered, “For 700 years, salah/namaz has been offered at Kamal Maula Mosque. How can it be a temple? It was never a temple or school, and there was never any idol installed there. Dirty politics is leading to this tense situation.”
