A bomb threat email created a stir at Raja Bhoj Airport in Madhya Pradesh Bhopal on Monday. The threat was allegedly sent to the official email account of the airport director, stating that explosives were planted at the airport premises.
It also warned that the airport could be blown up at any time.
Both the airport administration and security agencies went into alert mode soon after receiving the threatening email. The airport authorities immediately informed the Gandhinagar police station, following which a case was registered against an unknown person under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and aviation security regulations for issuing a criminal threat.
The bomb disposal squad and dog squad were also rushed to the scene and an extensive search operation is underway across the airport premises, including the terminal, baggage area and surrounding locations. So far, no suspicious object has been found.
Meanwhile, teams from the police and cyber cell are working to trace the origin of the threatening message.
