Muharram Procession Violence: A huge uproar was reported during the Muharram procession on Wednesday night at around 10 p.m. on the Bihar-Jharkhand border near Hariharganj Jaggu Chowk, located in Palamu. A minor dispute over a broken tubelight escalated to such an extent that there was heavy stone pelting between the two communities, reports jagran.com.
In this incident, many people, including former Panchayat Samiti members Sheela Devi, Akash Kumar, Komal Kumari, Vikas Kumar, Seema Devi, Irfan Khalid, and Arman Alam, were injured. At the same time, an SI and two jawans of Hariharganj police station were also injured. All the shops in the city remained closed on Thursday in protest against this incident.
On the other hand, Chhatarpur SDM Hira Kumar, SDPO Naushad Alam, BDO Kumar Arvind Bedia, and police station in-charge Chandan Kumar are trying to calm the matter by holding a meeting with both communities in the police station premises.
Section 144 has been imposed in the city. Police from Kutumba police station and Hariharganj police station in Bihar are camping at the spot. Despite this, there is information about sporadic clashes. The situation remains tense.
Regarding this incident, Kameshwar Paswan said that a tubelight was installed on the cemetery road for the procession. When the procession came, the light went off for some reason. After this, some people spread the rumor of breaking the tubelight. Later, the people involved in the procession surrounded the houses of Gupta Paswan and Doman Paswan and started pelting stones. They also entered the house by breaking the door and window and beat them up.
At the same time, Gangotri Kunwar said that she was at home with her daughter. Some people broke the window and entered the house and started beating them. Those people have been saved by the police. At the same time, some people have also said that the miscreants opened fire. The reason for the incident is being told as a dispute over the road by the people of the other community.
There was also a ruckus during the Muharram procession in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. A clash broke out here between two groups over the change in the Muharram procession route. At least six people were injured in this clash. The police gave this information on Thursday. The incident took place in the Pandarpala area of Waseypur on Wednesday night.
Police said that prohibitory orders have been imposed in the area under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) to maintain law and order. Security has also been beefed up to prevent any untoward incident.
Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police H.P. Janardhan said that the clashes took place due to the change in the Muharram procession route. The organisers claimed that the route had to be changed due to waterlogging. The SSP said that police reached the spot and the situation was brought under control. He said further investigation is underway.
