Mumbai Airport News: The Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai has adopted advanced payment modes like UPI and FASTag to improve traffic flow at its multi-level car parking. From debit/credit cards, FASTag and digital wallet to UPI, passengers now have a range of options to pay for parking.

This decision, in line with Centre's ‘Digital India’ initiative, has been made to streamline traffic flow, minimise wait times and provide a hassle-free parking experience for travelers.

To further speed up entry and exit, all the customer lanes at MLCP have been enabled with FASTag counters. FASTag users can now enjoy the automated parking process, eliminating the hassle of manual intervention, at the MLCP of Mumbai Airport. A majority of passengers at the Mumbai Airport's multi-level car parking are embracing cashless transactions.

Currently, 66% of users prefer FASTag, while 10-15% opt for UPI, credit, or debit cards, and 5% pre-book their parking slots. With 85% of passengers already adopting digital payment methods, CSMIA aims to further reduce cash transactions by partnering with stakeholders and promoting automated payment options. For those who still prefer to pay in cash, designated central payment stations will be available for transactions.

In contrast, the highly anticipated Navi Mumbai Airport, currently under construction, is expected to be officially inaugurated in mid-April. A crucial commercial validation test was conducted on the Airport nearly two months ago.

Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, in December, said that the international operations may commence by July next year.
