- Mumbai Airport operations were halted for one hour on Sunday.

Operations at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport were disrupted due to monsoon rains and gusty winds on Sunday. The disruption was most severe during an hour in the morning when the operations came to a halt between 10:17 AM and 11:17 AM.
Several inbound and outbound flights were affected by the monsoon fury. Four flights were cancelled, and 13 others were diverted due to bad weather. All diverted flights later returned to Mumbai, the airport officials said. According to flight tracker Flightradar24.com, 22 flights were cancelled, and 292 others were delayed by 4:49 PM.
The average flight delay was 1 hour. According to the flight-tracking portal, Mumbai airport remained the second-most disrupted airport on Sunday, after China's Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, where the average delay was 82 minutes.
In a statement on Sunday morning, CSMIA said, "At approximately 10.17 am, adverse weather conditions, including strong gusty winds of up to 42 knots and reduced visibility due to heavy rain, impacted runway operations. As per procedure, runway operations were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of passengers, aircraft and ground personnel."
The operations resumed only after the weather conditions slightly improved. Mumbai's CSMIA is the second busiest airport in India. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC) sources, cited in a news agency PTI report, CSMIA handles 980 to 1,000 flights a day, with an average of 48 air traffic movements, 24 arrivals and 24 departures per hour.
Mumbai's monsoon rain takes 4 lives
Mumbai's monsoon rain, like each year, has brought much relief for the residents, but issues like waterlogging, falling trees and open drains still persist and are taking lives. So far, four people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Mumbai.
Earlier in the day, a 63-year-old man, identified as Yunus Kundawala, died after a tree fell on him while he was standing outside his shop in Kurla area. Prior to that, a20-year-old biker died on Saturday in Aarey colony after a branch of a tree fell on his motorcycle.
On Thursday, a 60-year-old man, Aslam, died after falling into an open drain on a waterlogged road in the city's Sakinaka area.
Aslam stepped into an uncovered manhole after three contractual workers had removed the cover to carry out drain maintenance.
On June 30, an 11-year-old boy, Vihan Shrivastav, was killed after a tree fell on his school bus in Mumbai’s Chembur.
