In a recent development in the Mumbai metro pillar collapse incident, the family of Ramdhani Yadav, who died after an under-construction metro bridge segment collapsed in Mulund on Saturday, staged a protest at the accident site on Sunday and refused to accept his body. The family demanded enhanced compensation and a government job for a family member.
During the incident, Yadav was travelling in an autorickshaw when a parapet portion of an elevated metro bridge under construction fell on LBS Road near the Johnson and Johnson factory around 12.15 pm on Saturday. The falling debris crushed the autorickshaw completely, killing him on the spot and injuring three others.
The deceased’s family members, accompanied by members of the Yadav community, demanded Rs 2 crore in compensation and a government job for one family member. They set a deadline of 5 pm for the authorities to provide written assurance, warning that they would stage a road blockade if their demands were not met.
Following the protest, police intervened and took the family members to Mulund police station for discussions. Local MLA Mohit Kotecha and former MP Manoj Kotak also joined the talks with the family.
A relative of the deceased, Shashikant Yadav, alleged that representatives of the contractor had approached the family on Saturday night with an offer of Rs 15 lakh compensation along with Rs 5 lakh government relief. However, the family rejected the Rs 20 lakh offer, saying it was insufficient to support the deceased’s dependents.
Ramdhani Yadav, a resident of Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh, was the elected head of Bharthani village from the Samajwadi Party. He is survived by three daughters. The family said they are concerned about the education and marriage expenses of their daughters and questioned how the offered compensation would be adequate.
In the incident, three others, Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45), Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52), and Deepa Ruhiya (40), were injured. Rajkumar Yadav remains in critical condition and is admitted to the ICU of a nearby hospital, officials said.
An FIR has been registered at Mulund police station against officials of Milan Road Buildtech and DB Hill LBG under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other relevant charges.

Police have arrested project director Harish Chauhan, project manager Kuldeep Sapkal, deputy manager Saurab Singh, supervisor Prashant Bhoir of Milan Road Buildtech, and project manager Avdhoot Inamdar of DB Hill LBG in connection with the case.
