An Air India Mumbai-New York flight was diverted to Delhi early Monday due to a security alert triggered by a bomb threat. The aircraft is currently grounded at Indira Gandhi International Airport, where safety protocols are being rigorously implemented to safeguard the passengers and crew. The aircraft was moved to an isolated runway at the airport, where security agencies, including a bomb squad, carried out detailed inspections.

The flight departed from Mumbai around 2 am and was rerouted to Delhi shortly after takeoff.

“Flight AI119 from Mumbai to JFK on October 14 received a specific security alert and on instructions of the government’s security regulatory committee was diverted to Delhi. All passengers have disembarked and are at the Delhi airport terminal. Our colleagues on the ground are making sure to minimise the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,” an Air India spokesperson said.

Besides, an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Muscat received a bomb threat shortly before takeoff today. The aircraft was moved to a secluded bay, where officials initiated security checks.

“IndiGo flight 6E 1275 operating from Mumbai to Muscat had received a bomb threat. As per protocol, the aircraft was taken to an isolated bay, and following the standard operating procedure, mandatory security checks were promptly initiated," the airlines said in a statement.

Multiple airports have been the target of bomb threats, many of which have later turned out to be hoaxes.

A Vistara flight travelling from London to New Delhi faced a similar bomb threat on October 9, prompting the aircraft to make a safe landing at the Delhi Airport.

According to sources, a note warning about a bomb onboard was discovered inside one of the plane’s toilets, following which the authorities were promptly alerted, as reported by PTI. The flight was carrying approximately 290 passengers at the time.
