Mumbai Water Cut: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a supply disruption in multiple areas of Mumbai for a week, starting Monday amid maintenance work of water tunnels. The disruption, a 5 per cent reduction in water supply will occur from April 20 to 27.
BMC Update On Water Cut
BMC has announced maintenance work on two major water tunnels - AMT-1 and AMT-2. The process will include processes such as charging the system, flushing it out, followed by chlorination and dechlorination to maintain water quality.
AMT-1 is responsible for transporting water from Amar Mahal (Hegdewar Garden) through Wadala (Pratiksha Nagar) and onward to Parel (Sadakant Dhavan Garden). AMT-2 connects Amar Mahal with the Trombay Low-Level and High-Level Reservoirs.
BMC said these procedures are critical for maintaining the infrastructure’s performance and ensuring a safe, uninterrupted water supply over time.
Mumbai Water Cut Areas
As per BMC, water supply will be impacted in multiple wards in the eastern suburbs. These include - L (Kurla East), M East, M West, N, S, and T wards.
Areas in south and central Mumbai under A, B, C, E, F North, and F South wards are also likely to be affected during the maintenance work.
BMC has advised residents to use water judiciously and not waste the precious resource. The civic authority has also urged people to cooperate during the affected time period.
Earlier, to enable the installation of two 1500 mm diameter butterfly valves on the Sewree Tunnel-Bhandarwada Hill Reservoir pipeline at Haji Bunder Road, the BMC announced a water supply disruption across parts of South and Central Mumbai on April 16 and 17.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), BMC had stated that the water supply will remain completely suspended from 10 AM on Thursday, April 16, until 4 AM on Friday, April 17, in A, B, C, E and F/South wards. Some areas are expected to experience low-pressure water supply during this period.
