Namo Bharat Train Update: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is planning to launch the country’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. After the launch of the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road (UER-II) in Delhi, the officials are planning to run Namo Bharat trains on the entire corridor by the end of August.
The NCRTC has received all necessary NOCs for the launch from the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner (CMRS). With the launch of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS, travel time between Delhi and Meerut will reduce by 55 minutes.
Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor To Be Launched Soon
The NRCTC officials are planning to roll out Namo Bharat trains on the entire Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor by the end of August, Jagran.com reported. The PMO has sought the necessary information about the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor from NCRTC, and once the discussions are over, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 82-km stretch of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor. Earlier, the trial run was successfully conducted on the stretch.
“We conducted a successful trial run for the entire 82km corridor, and the train arrived at all stoppages between Sarai Kale Khan (in Delhi) and Modipuram (the last station in Meerut) in less than an hour. As things are progressing fast, we are hoping that the system will be operational very soon,” NCRTC Chief Public Relations Officer Puneet Vats said.
Currently, a 55 km stretch from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut is operational, with the remaining under construction. The non-operational section of the corridor includes a 4.5 km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a 23 km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Meerut.
