Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Tuesday reacted to a political controversy in Tamil Nadu over tech giant Google's decision to invest in Andhra, rather than Tamil Nadu, the home state of the firm's CEO, Sundar Pichai. While reacting to remarks of an AIADMK leader slamming the DMK for "failing" to lure Google for investment in Tamil Nadu, Lokesh asserted that the investment was in India, rejecting the regional conflicts. The state IT minister had emphasised that the investment will ensure thousands of jobs and a significant boost to India's tech sector.

"He (Sundar Pichai) chose Bharat," Nara Lokesh stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter), while sharing one of the clips of an AIADMK leader. While talking to the reporters, AIADMK senior leader RB Udayakumar slammed the DMK government by stating that Tamil Nadu missed the chance to emerge as a national hub for AI.

"Despite Google CEO Sundar Pichai being a Tamil, the DMK government failed to invite the company to establish its AI infrastructure hub here. This is not just a missed investment. It's a lost chance for Tamil Nadu to emerge as a national hub for AI, data analytics, and digital infrastructure," Udayakumar stated.

However, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Raaja stated that the state will receive more investment from Foxconn, a key firm known for making Apple devices, like iPhones. While announcing the decision to invest in Vishakhapatnam, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian stated that this was the firm's biggest investment outside the United States.

"It's the largest AI hub that we are going to be investing in anywhere in the world outside of the US," Kurian stated while addressing a crowd. The firm will invest USD 15 billion in Vishakhapatnam over the next five years, the country's largest data centre in partnership with Adani Group.
