In a fresh development in the NEET-UG paper leak case, Appearing before the parliamentary committee on Thursday, top officials of the National Testing Agency (NTA) claimed that the NEET-UG paper was not leaked but rather there was a compromise in the system.

The Parliamentay panel sought an update from Director General (DG) of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Abhishek Singh about probe into the NEET-UG paper leak with members also asking questions about the steps being taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.

According to ANI citing sources said that NTA chief told the panel that the leak did not take place from their system and that CBI is conducting probe into the leak of questions that led to cancellation of the examination. NEET-UG will now be held on June 21 .

Digvijay Singh was assuming the paper was leaked

There was uproar in the meeting as the committee chairman and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh was considering it as a paper leak, while the BJP MPs present in the committee meeting cornered him and said that how can they say that the paper was without the CBI investigation being completed.

National Testing Agency (NTA) officials claimed before a parliamentary committee attached to the Education Ministry that the teachers who were given the task of translating the final NEET-UG question paper into Marathi had memorised the questions and later copied them on paper and provided them to students as guess papers.

Some committee members raised questions about this. They said, "When an exact question paper is released through a guess paper, it must be considered a leak." The committee members also asked the NTA Director General several questions regarding the preparation of the question paper, to which he did not respond, stating only that a CBI investigation is underway.

According to jagran.com, reportedly even before the meeting started, BJP MP Sambit Patra accused Digvijay Singh of leaking the agenda.

Amidst the uproar in the meeting, Digvijay Singh asked, "If the paper leak isn't called a leak, then what should it be called?" Countering this, former Union Minister and BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "No conclusions should be drawn until the CBI report is presented."

MPs from BJP, Congress and SP were present in meeting

Around 15 MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had reached this meeting of the Parliamentary Committee related to the Education Ministry, led by senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh.

These included MPs from the BJP, Congress, and the Samajwadi Party. Senior officials from the NTA, including Vineet Joshi, Secretary of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, were also present.

NTA Director General said this

NTA Director General Abhishek Singh stated that 70% of the Radhakrishnan Committee's recommendations have been implemented. He outlined the protocols surrounding the exam.

He also stated that they have implemented approximately 70% of the Radhakrishnan Committee's recommendations. The meeting also suggested that the NTA prepare 10 sets of question papers, mix them, and send them to different states. This would ensure that any paper leak, if any, would be limited to just one state.

Meanwhile, Political tensions heightened amid protests over NEET UG 2026, which was cancelled on May 12 following allegations of a coordinated paper leak. The exam, conducted on May 3 across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, saw participation from over 22 lakh candidates.The Union Education Ministry has ordered strengthened security measures for the upcoming re-examination scheduled on June 21.
