The IPC, CrPC and evidence laws of the colonial era are going to be done away with as India will, from July 1, embrace new provisions under the Criminal Laws passed by the Parliament. The legal sections on incidents such as murder, robbery, theft or assault are going to be altered. From police stations to the outposts, extensive publicity is being done in this regard. In May, training regarding these changes has already been provided to officers, sub-inspectors, and clerks.

The Indian Justice Code, the Indian Civil Protection Code, and the Indian Evidence Act will be implemented starting July 1. Efforts regarding this have been ongoing for several months.

Additionally, two days ago, the Senior Superintendent of Police also instructed all station in-charges during a Zoom meeting regarding the changes in laws effective from July 1, emphasising that no negligence will be tolerated. The IPC, CrPC, and Evidence laws established during the British era have been amended.

Provisions under new laws:

- Where earlier Section 302 was applied for murder, from July 1 onwards, cases will be registered under Section 103(1)

- Similarly, where earlier cases of attempt to murder were registered under Section 307, from July 1 onwards, cases will be registered under Section 109

- Cases of robbery and dacoity, where earlier Section 392 was applied, have now been changed to Section 309(4)

At least 40 lakh people have been trained at the basic level for the three new criminal laws that will come into force. This includes 5.65 lakh police personnel and jail officers. They have also been trained to make everyone aware of these new laws.

With the increasing use of technology in the investigation and judicial processes under the new laws, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has been empowered to provide technical support to all states and union territories. Henceforth, every police station across the country will register cases through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) application.
