Indian Railways is creating a permanent holding area near the Ajmeri Gate side of New Delhi Station to manage passenger flow during peak festival seasons like Chhath, Holi, and Diwali. The facility will keep crowds off platforms, allowing only ticketed passengers to access platforms before specific train arrivals.
New Delhi Railway Station Holding’s Three Zones
The holding area project of New Delhi railway station has been divided into three functional zones: Pre Ticketing Area, Ticketing Area and Post Ticketing Area.
1. Pre-Ticketing Area (1,950 sqm): Can accommodate approximately 2,700 passengers during peak hours and will have amenities such as drinking water, food stalls, mobile toilets, lighting and fans.

3. Post-Ticketing Area (1,570 sqm): Provides space for around 1,350 passengers, with room for queuing, security checks, and luggage screening.
