- MCD intensifies crackdown on illegal construction in Delhi.
- 33 unauthorized structures demolished, 5 properties sealed.
- 29 show-cause notices issued for building norm violations.
The MCD has intensified its crackdown on illegal construction in Delhi following the Satya Niketan building collapse, demolishing 33 unauthorised structures and sealing five properties on Saturday. The civic body also issued 29 show-cause notices for violations of building norms and other applicable provisions.
During the enforcement drive, the MCD carried out demolition action against particularly dangerous structures in Nehru Vihar and Gandhi Vihar in the North Zone.
In the Northwest Zone, demolition was carried out in Rohini Sector 3, where an RCC panel above a room on the third-floor terrace was removed. Action was also taken in Vijay Vihar and Rohini Sectors 15 and 16.
In the South Zone, enforcement teams took action in Satbari and Sainik Farms. In the Northeast Zone, drives were conducted in Bhajanpura, Som Bazaar, South Gamdi, East Rohtas Nagar and Shahdara. Demolition action was also carried out in Dwarka and Kakrola in the Southwest Zone.
In the West Zone, the MCD took action in Tihar Village, Rajouri Garden Extension and Paschim Vihar, while enforcement teams carried out drives in Jogabai Extension and Jamia Nagar in the Central Zone.
Survey Identifies 2,251 PG Buildings Housing 47,000 Residents
The MCD has so far surveyed around 2,251 buildings being used as paying guest (PG) facilities, with approximately 47,000 residents living in them. The civic body is currently consolidating the information collected during the field surveys and will take necessary action in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
The MCD has reiterated that strict enforcement will continue against dangerous buildings, unauthorised construction and other violations of the Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) and building bye-laws.
