What's Behind The Unexpected Downpour?

Even though the monsoon departed in September, a combination of weather conditions created these sudden storms:

Active Western Disturbance

A Western Disturbance active over the northern mountains is bringing moist winds, snow, and hail to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. As this weather system moved down into the plains, it brought heavy rain to Delhi and surrounding areas.

Cyclonic Circulations

A cyclonic circulation system has created widespread cloud cover over low-lying areas in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, further pushing rain clouds straight toward the national capital.

Collision Of Warm And Cold Winds

Moist, warm winds coming from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are colliding directly with cold, dry winds coming from the west. This clash has created unstable atmospheric conditions, triggering thunderstorms and steady rain.

Sharp Drop In Temperature

October usually marks the start of cooler weather in North India. When cold air suddenly moved in from the west, temperatures dropped significantly. This sudden drop further intensified storm activity across Delhi-NCR and parts of Punjab.

The maximum temperatures are expected to stay between 32 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will range between 23 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius.
