DUSU Elections 2026: Motilal Nehru College Faculty Stage Protest After Teacher Assaulted By Campaigner, Seek Action

DUSU Elections 2026: A teacher was allegedly assaulted by a student campaigning for the upcoming Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections 2026, prompting faculty of DU's Motilal Nehru College (Evening) to stage a protest on Wednesday. The teachers gathered at the college seeking action against the student.

Teacher Grievously Injured

According to the protesting faculty, the teacher has been grievously injured and is receiving medical attention after being attacked by a DUSU campaigner on the last day of the campaign for the polls. The protesting teachers said they would file an FIR and boycott any election duties.

"Students need to understand the boundary. Faculty members cannot be beaten up," the teacher said. The teacher said faculty were not immediately sure which student organisation the alleged campaigner represented.

The incident comes on the day campaigning for the DUSU elections concluded. Polling for the DUSU elections is scheduled for September 18, while counting will take place on Saturday, September 19.

ABVP, NSUI Trade Allegations Of Violence

Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday traded allegations of attacks on their members, as campaigning for the DUSU elections came to an end.

The ABVP alleged that one of their member was subjected to a "life-threatening attack" outside Law Centre-1 (LC-1) on the Delhi University campus by members associated with the Congress, Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and NSUI.

ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma condemned the alleged incident and demanded action against those responsible and security for students. He alleged that external political workers were being brought into the campus to disturb the election process.

The ABVP also alleged attempts to influence students through money power and said such allegations should be investigated impartially.

Tribal Student Attacked Outside Motilal Nehru College: NSUI

The NSUI, meanwhile, alleged that an NSUI tribal student member was attacked outside Motilal Nehru College by ABVP-linked members. The student organisation condemned the alleged attack and demanded an investigation and action against those responsible. "This attack is not merely against an individual student, but against social justice, the Constitution, and the dignity of the tribal community," NSUI said in its statement.

NSUI national media in-charge Ravi Hanuman Pandey said every student, irrespective of their caste, community or background, deserved dignity and security on the DU campus.
