The Mumbai Crime Branch interrogated Professor Suryanarayana Doolla for nearly 10 hours in connection with the death of second-year BTech student Sahil Wakode. The questioning focused on the interaction between Wakode and Doolla in the examination hall, specifically addressing allegations from the family regarding casteist slurs.
The intense grilling comes days after a 20-year-old, IIT Bombay student Wakode was found hanging in his hostel room, hours after he was caught cheating in the exam hall.
What did the police ask Dolla during interrogation?
In the 10-hour long questioning session, the investigators have asked several questions related to Wakode suicide, cheating incident, about the allegations of castiest slurs and so on. The interrogators asked Dolla, what exactly happened between Wakode and him between 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm on the day, he was caught cheating in the examination jhall.
The Mumbai crime branch asked Doolla, about the exact words used during the confrontation, reasons for sending the 20-year-old out of the classroom, the NDTV reported. The investigators also asked Dolla about the standard applicable to a student caught using a phone during the examination and whether he informed his senior colleagues about the incident.
The IIT Bombay professor was also questioned regarding specific allegations from Sahil's family about caste-based harassment and remarks, as well as his response to each claim. Police are checking Doolla's account against CCTV footage and statements from students and officials who were present. Additionally, investigators are examining whether Doolla and Wakode had any prior interactions.

As the probe intensifies, the cops are investigating the CCTV footage of the examination hall against Doola’s statement during the questioning. So far, at least, 45 people, including Sahil's parents, fellow students, hostel staff and others connected to the case, the report added.

Apart from this, cops are also examining the two mobile phones, laptop and tablet have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for forensic examination and data retrieval. Police are also probing the circumstances surrounding the alleged use of ChatGPT during the examination.
