Project Milestones
'Shreyas' is the third vessel in the project of four ships built by GRSE as part of the Indian Navy's 11-ship NGOPV program. The first ship, 'Sanghamitra', was launched on May 20, 2026, followed by the second ship, 'Shruti', on August 11, 2026.
Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar expressed happiness over the launch of the third ship in less than five months, stating, "This achievement reflects the increasing speed, capability and robustness of the Indian warship building system with the round-the-clock efforts being put in at GRSE."
Emphasising the importance of maritime presence, Vice Admiral Kochhar added, "For a maritime nation like India, maintaining a consistent and credible maritime presence in the region is essential. The country's long coastline, vast exclusive economic zone, and maritime-dependent economic and energy interests make such ships increasingly important."
