Keralam: Heavy rains lashed several parts of Keralam on Thursday, ending weeks of rising temperatures and bringing relief to residents across the state.

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for multiple districts, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h.

Weather Alerts Issued Across Districts

Orange Alert: Issued for three districts - Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki - for Thursday, indicating very heavy rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm.

Yellow Alert: Issued for six districts - Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad - indicating heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.

Brief Respite Expected

While the sudden downpours provided relief, the weather agency noted that the respite may be short-lived. According to the IMD, rainfall activity across Keralam is expected to decrease over the next couple of days.

Weather Today: Rain Expected Across Multiple States Until October 6

The IMD has forecast light to heavy rainfall across several states at least until October 6. Along with downpours, multiple regions are expected to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning.

In light of these conditions, authorities have advised residents to follow safety guidelines and limit unnecessary outdoor activities during the rain to avoid inconvenience.

According to the weather agency, rain is likely across several states on Thursday:

  • North & Central India: Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
  • East India: Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal.
  • West India: Gujarat and Maharashtra.
