Residents of a high-rise society in Greater Noida have been facing a worsening water crisis that eventually turned their affluence into a daily endurance. Families residing in Supertech’s Supernova project in Noida are facing a serious water issue, with several complaining that worms and foul-smelling, discoloured water are coming from household taps.
Over 350 families in Sector 94 along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway have been affected by the escalating problem. The residents allegedly flagged the deteriorating water quality and living conditions in the high-rise society.
What Did the Residents Say?
A 42-year-old assistant professor narrated how she was stunned to discover yellowish-black, foul-smelling water upon opening her kitchen tap. She noted that the issue extended beyond the kitchen to her bathroom taps and toilet flushes.
The family had moved to Noida after spending their entire lives in Delhi. Initially, they rented an apartment in Supernova’s Nova East and West blocks and lived there for nearly two years before deciding to purchase a three-bedroom apartment worth several crores.
The property they live in at present was once considered their dream home. However, the deepening water crisis has left the family deeply concerned and disappointed.
In some homes, worms began appearing in the bathroom taps and toilet flush. The contaminated water caused skin problems in a child. Residents of the society are now importing bottled water for cooking.
What’s the Authorities’ Take on the Crisis?
The Apartment Owners Association (AOA) is responsible for managing and maintaining Supernova's residential projects. Prior to the handover, the builder accrued outstanding water bills of Rs 4.2 million. Because the builder failed to pay, authorities disconnected the Ganga water supply, causing the bill (including interest) to swell to Rs 7.2 million. The AOA remains short of funds.

To compensate, the AOA arranged to treat groundwater using a water softener before supplying it to homes. However, this softener plant has been out of order for four months, leaving the society with a contaminated water supply.
"Using high TDS water has become a compulsion for us. If the authorities give us a discount on our water bills, we will pay. Several discussions have been held on this issue, but the authorities are unwilling to agree. We have received complaints about dirty water; there may be a problem with some lines that is currently being looked into," said Naresh Nandwani, AOA Advisor.
