Bihar Politics: Five National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday afternoon. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, BJP leaders Nitin Nabin, Ramnath Thakur, Upendra Kushwaha and Shivesh Kumar jointly submitted their nomination papers in the presence of Union Minister Amit Shah in Patna. Several senior leaders of BJP and JD(U) were also present.

Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar  confirmed that he wanted to become a member of the Rajya Sabha. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kumar stated that he wanted to serve in the both houses of the parliament since the beginning of his career as a politician. He further stated that the new government will be formed under his guidance, adding that Bihar will continue to prosper under the NDA government.

In his post, Kumar thanked the people of Bihar for showing faith in him for the past several years. He further stated that he sought to become the member of the upper house. "For more than two decades, you have consistently placed your trust and support in me, and it is on the strength of that trust that we have served Bihar and all of you with complete dedication. It was the power of your trust and support that has enabled Bihar today to present a new dimension of development and dignity. For this, I have expressed my gratitude to you many times in the past as well," Kumar stated in his post.

With Nitish Kumar's move to the Rajya Sabha, the leadership of the Bihar government is expected to shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This marks a significant turning point in the state’s politics. After years of dominance, the transition signals the possible end of the Nitish Kumar era in Bihar, with the BJP poised to take full control of the government.
