Days after Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Yadav extended an invite to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to join hands with the party, the latter stated that he “went here and there by mistake” and added that the party would now stay together and develop the country and Bihar on its own.

The Bihar CM also criticised the Lalu Prasad-led government in the state before 2005 and said, “Before the year 2005, Bihar ki halat kaafi kharab thi (the condition of Bihar was really bad). People were afraid to come out of their homes after evening. There was no arrangement for treatment in hospitals, the roads were dilapidated, the condition of education was not good, and often there were reports of religious disputes.”

"We went here and there by mistake twice. But now we will always stay together and will develop the country along with Bihar," he added.

Kumar made these remarks during a review meeting at the Gopalganj collectorate hall. Nitish Kumar outlined the various schemes that played a key role in the state's development since his party received the mandate on November 24, 2005.

This comes amid ongoing speculation about a possible "alliance" between JDU and the Mahagathbandhan ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections.

Nitish Kumar's remarks came after RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav stated that the doors were still open for the Bihar Chief Minister to rejoin the 'Mahagathbandan' in the state. The alliance, which includes Congress, RJD, CPI, CPI(M), and CPI(ML), had previously seen a fractured relationship between the two leaders.

"Our doors are open (for Nitish). He should also unbolt his gates. This would facilitate movement of people from both sides,” Lalu Yadav said on Thursday.

Nitish Kumar has previously teamed up with the RJD twice, first in 2015 and then in 2022, before ultimately joining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
