The IPS Officer allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver at his Chandigarh residence on Tuesday.
The incident shocked the nation as he accused 16 officials, including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya, of discriminating against him based on caste and mental harassment.
Earlier today, the Haryana government removed Bijarniya from Rohtak and appointed IPS officer Surinder Singh Bhoria as the new SP. The action comes amid mounting pressure from the deceased IPS officer's family, seeking action against the named officials.
Kumar's family had demanded the immediate arrest of the DGP and Rohtak SP. To investigate the alleged suicide case, the Chandigarh Police has formed a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a comprehensive and impartial probe into the matter.
As the controversy deepened, several officials and ministers from Haryana and politicians from various states met Kumar's wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, on Saturday.
Chandigarh DGP Sagar Preet Hooda visited the residence of Puran Kumar. After meeting the family, he said that his family members have refused to give their consent for the post-mortem due to some grievances, and discussion are underway to resolve them.
