In a horrifying incident from Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, a 55-year-old auto driver named Himanshu allegedly bludgeoned his elderly parents to death with a hammer while under the influence of alcohol and then spent the night sleeping beside their lifeless bodies.

The shocking double murder took place following a heated family dispute. According to reports, Himanshu, in a drunken and enraged state, attacked his 81-year-old father Hadibandhu Sahu and 72-year-old mother Shanti Sahu with a heavy hammer, killing them on the spot.

The following morning, neighbours discovered the grim scene, the elderly couple’s bodies were lying on a cot, and Himanshu was sitting beside them. Stunned by the sight, they immediately alerted local police authorities.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after and arrested Himanshu. The bodies were sent for postmortem to PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada.

During the investigation, officials found that Himanshu had been living alone, as his wife and children had separated from him due to ongoing family disputes. A police officer said, “Himanshu was heavily intoxicated that night, which likely contributed to his violent outburst.”

Police are now probing into the case.
