Odisha News: The Odisha government is reportedly planning to build a new four-lane expressway between Rasulgarh and Raghunathpur to reduce traffic congestion in the capital city, Bhubaneshwar. The authority stated that the project will provide convenience to thousands of commuters of the northern corridor of the capital region. Apart from providing relief to the commuters by cutting the travel time, the expressway will also provide a boost to the financial activities. Earlier last month, the state government announced that several projects will be announced in the upcoming months to boost the infrastructure.

While providing details, the officials stated that the expressway will provide an alternative to the commuters travelling on the congested Jayadev Vihar–Nandankanan road, reported the New Indian Express. Apart from this, the project will also connect NH-16 with multiple residential and commercial hubs of the city. The authority further stated that while the final alignment has not been finalised yet, the project is likely to be built parallel to the Chandaka–Patia belt.

The four-lane expressway will connect important institutional areas, IT hubs, and residential areas. The officials further stated that the expressway will also have service roads and pedestrian pathways to provide easy commutes and convenience to the residents of nearby regions. The government has assigned the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) to select an agency to conduct a feasibility study for the project.

“The road’s viability will be studied first. Once the feasibility survey is conducted and a DPR is prepared, it will be placed before the government for approval. The expressway is expected to reduce travel time by at least 30 to 40 per cent once operational and divert a considerable volume of traffic,” a senior official from the Works Department was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
