Odisha: In Odisha's Puri, Three individuals were taken into custody for reportedly raping a college student who was 19 years old. The incident occurred in close proximity to a beach, in front of her boyfriend.

The horrible incident happened on Saturday, when the survivor and her boyfriend were seated near the Baliharchandi temple. According to NDTV, the accused then began recording them and demanding money in exchange for deleting the tapes, authorities claimed on Monday.

When the couple refused to pay, two of the group members allegedly gang-raped the woman, while the others attacked her boyfriend and bound him to a tree.

The teen girl filed a report on Monday evening after coming out from the trauma of the alleged sexual assault, according to the police, who added that the three suspects, all locals, had been arrested. They allegedly deleted the footage before being arrested. Another suspect is currently on the run.

In recent months, the number of sexual assault cases in Odisha has increased significantly. A woman was allegedly raped by three people at a lodge in Bhubaneswar last Wednesday. The accused, who were arrested on Saturday, enticed the victim, a singer, with the promise of a large musical endeavour before taking her to a lodge and offering her a sedative-laced beverage.

On September 5, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 28-year-old man in Kandhamal while on her way to her sister's village to watch the immersion of Ganesh idol.

Similarly, last month, a 10-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old youth of her community in Mayurbhanj. The accused was later arrested.
