Odisha News: A 24-hour internet shutdown was announced in Bhadrak district of Odisha on Thursday after the death of a person involved in communal violence, which took place on May 30. The young man had suffered severe injuries after a violent clash broke out between two communities last month. The local authorities shut down internet services today as a precautionary measure amid ongoing tensions. As many as 12 people have been arrested so far.
The deceased was identified as Santosh Parida, a Tihidi resident, The Times of India reported. He was admitted to a hospital and was undergoing treatment. Santosh succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
The Bhadrak authorities imposed a 24-hour internet shutdown from 6:00 AM on June 12 to 6:00 AM on June 13. The internet shutdown has been imposed to control the situation and avoid further escalation of tensions.
The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, announced a compensation package for the deceased Santosh Parida’s family. The compensation package includes Rs 10 lakh ex gratia and employment to a family member.
“We stand with the bereaved family and are taking all the necessary steps to ensure peace prevails”, CM Mohan Charan Majhi said in an official statement.
The authorities have deployed police officials to maintain order in Bhadrak, Odisha. Twelve people who were involved in the communal clash have been arrested. Bhadrak SP Manoj Rawat said that the police is trying to catch the other accused involved in the May 30 incident.

The CM said that the authorities are taking preventive measures to maintain control and avoid the spread of miscommunication. “The situation is under control,” he added.
