Odisha Weather Forecast: A possible low-pressure formation in the Bay of Bengal prompted Odisha's Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Thursday to warn fishermen to stay out of the water on August 16 and 17, said officials. The SRC noted the continuation of a cyclonic circulation over South Bangladesh and adjacent Gangetic West Bengal, which extends up to 4.5 km above sea level and tilts southwestwards, in a letter to the principal secretary and director of the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, as well as to district collectors in Ganjam, Puri, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this system may cause a low-pressure area to emerge across Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours.
It further stated that squally weather with gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph is anticipated across the North West Bay of Bengal on Friday and Saturday due to its impact and strong monsoon currents.
"In this connection, fishermen may be advised not to venture into the northwest Bay of Bengal on August 16 and 17," the SRC said, adding that fishermen out at sea are advised to return to the coast.
