Odisha Weather: IMD Issues Red Alert For Heavy Rain In Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi; Forecast

Jagran Correspondent, Bhubaneswar: Due to the influence of a low pressure area formed in the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, rain is expected to continue in Odisha over the next week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts in the state.

The low pressure area is causing continuous rain in most parts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected.

Orange Alert In THESE Districts

The weather department has issued an orange alert for several districts of coastal and northern Odisha, besides Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nayagarh and Rayagada.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Boudh districts over the next 24 hours. District administrations have been instructed to remain vigilant and ensure necessary preparations.

Advisory For Fishermen

According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour can blow on the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, Odisha, West Bengal and North Andhra Pradesh coasts.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to the possibility of rough seas. Danger Signal No. 3 has been raised at all ports along the Odisha coast.

According to the weather forecast of the Meteorological Department, another cyclonic circulation is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal by the end of the month.

Between August 24 and 26, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and upper catchment areas of various rivers.
After this, there is a possibility of good rainfall in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Kalahandi and
Balangir districts around August 27 and 28.

The weather department said that another cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around August 29-30 and turn into a low pressure area between August 31 and September 1, which may further increase rainfall activities in Odisha.
