Odisha Weather: Odisha continues to be battered by relentless rainfall on Thursday as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moves closer to the coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for seven districts, warning of extremely heavy downpours. An orange alert has been declared for 16 districts, while the remaining seven have been placed under a yellow warning, according to officials.
Since Wednesday, widespread rainfall has affected nearly all regions of the state, with the coastal and southern districts experiencing particularly intense showers.
IMD has issued red alert in Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal. These areas are likely to receive over 20 cm of rainfall in isolated locations until 8:30 AM on Friday.
Almost 16 districts, including Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, and Kendrapara, are under orange alert, with anticipated rainfall.
A yellow alert has been forecast for 7 districts in the western region of the state.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast till October 3.
The IMD has also suggested hoisting of ‘Local Cautionary Signal No-III’ (LC-3) at all ports in the state.
