Odisha Weather Update: Odisha will be witnessing rainfall and thunderstorms till May 5 under the influence of Kalbaisakhi, according to the local meteorological department. Rain is likely across the state till May 3, with sporadic showers expected on May 4 and 5. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Dhenkanal.

Wind speeds during this period may reach 40–50 kmph. Several parts of West and South Odisha are also likely to experience rainfall. Isolated areas in Coastal Odisha, Interior Odisha, Mayurbhanj, and Kendujhar are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain on Thursday.

Thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast for North and South Odisha on May 2 and 3. Temperatures will remain relatively low over the next four days but are expected to rise by 2–3°C thereafter. On Tuesday, Kendujhar recorded 31.2 mm of rainfall, while hailstorms were reported in Angul, Kendujhar, Jharsuguda, and Deogarh.

Bengal Weather Update

Storm alert has also been issued today for several districts in West Bengal. On May 1, thunderstorm is expected over Purulia, East and West Burdwan, Birbhum, Bankura, Jhargram and West Midnapur.

Winds upto 40-50 kmph is expected in these areas with lighting along with rain to lash one or two locations.

In view of rain and thunderstorms, southern districts including Kolkata are likely to witness a drop in temperature by three to five degrees in the next few days. The maximum temperature in Kolkata on Tuesday was 4.4 degrees lower than Monday. The maximum temperature on Tuesday was 31.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature on Wednesday was 25.7 degrees Celsius, which is 0.5 degrees below normal, as per the report.
