Odisha Weather Update: Heavy Rain Likely In Coastal Regions From THIS Date; IMD Issues Advisory

Odisha Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the monsoon will arrive in Odisha in the next three to four days. As per the weather department, several districts are set to witness light to heavy rainfall in the upcoming days. However, experts believe that people are unlikely to get much relief from the scorching heat even after the arrival of monsoon. The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings during the rainfall.

As per the weather department, a low pressure area is unlikely to form in the Bay of Bengal, leading to less than average rainfall in the state. While providing details, the IMD stated that Odisha has recorded 47 per cent rainfall deficit since June 1. The state has only recorded 23.7 mm of rain, while the state usually recorded 41.1 mm of rain during the pre monsoon.

The reports suggest that except for Nayagarh, most areas of western, northern, and central Odisha are experiencing near-drought conditions. According to the US weather agency NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), El Nino has become active in the Pacific Ocean and is expected to become extremely powerful in the coming weeks.

While providing details, meteorologist Biswajit Sahu stated that several districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Jharsuguda districts in northern Odisha are likely to see the maximum deficit in monsoon rainfall. Along with these districts, Koraput and Malkangiri districts in southern Odisha are also expected to witness similar weather condition.

The IMD stated that light to heavy rainfall is expected across the state between June 17 and 19. However, despite the rainfall, temperatures are expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius in interior and western Odisha, and between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius in coastal areas.

The weather department has advised the residents of the coastal regions to follow the guidelines and stay updated to avoid any inconveniences.
