Odisha Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday stated that several districts of Odisha are likely to receive light to heavy rainfall till July 28. It further stated that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal will lead to heavy rainfall in several regions of the state on Saturday. The weather department stated that along with the heavy rainfall, these regions are also expected to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds. The rainfall is likely to provide relief from scorching heat by reducing the maximum temperature by two to four degrees Celsius.

The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences. While providing details, the weather department stated that several districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh, are expected to witness heavy rainfall on Saturday.

Apart from the rainfall, these districts are also expected to witness lightning, thunderstorms, and gusty winds with speeds up to 30-40 kmph. The weather department has also issued a red alert for the Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, adding that these regions are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday.

 “It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts during forenoon of July 25. Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha and Jharkhand during subsequent 24 hours,” the weather department stated in its bulletin.

The IMD has directed the district administration to stay on alert for the next few days. It also advised the fishermen to avoid any financial activities till July 28 to avoid any inconveniences. Apart from Odisha, several other states, including Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal, are also likely to receive light to heavy rainfall due to the low-pressure area.
