DGMO Press Briefing On Operation Sindoor: In a high-level press briefing held over an hour long, India’s top military leaders addressed the media a day after Pakistan breached a mutual understanding to halt cross-border firing. The Indian Armed Forces launched a fierce response under Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure and strategic military positions across Pakistan.

The briefing was led by Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations (Indian Army), Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti, Director General Air Operations (Indian Air Force), and Vice Admiral AN Pramod, Director General Naval Operations (Indian Navy).

All three services – the Army, Navy, and Air Force  presented a unified front in detailing India’s swift retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 civilian lives.

Key Highlights from the DGMO Press Briefing

1. Over 100 Terrorists Eliminated

More than 100 terrorists were neutralised during Operation Sindoor on May 7. Among those killed were high-profile terrorists like Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed, all of whom were linked to the 1999 IC814 hijacking and the 2019 Pulwama attack. Indian forces also confirmed that 35–40 Pakistani Army personnel lost their lives in the operation.

2. Wave of Drone Attacks Prompted Retaliation

Despite agreeing to a ceasefire, Pakistan sent multiple drone waves into Indian territory. In response, the Indian military executed precision airstrikes on six key Pakistani airbases – Chaklala, Murid, Rafiqui, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian – targeting critical infrastructure, Air Marshal Bharti revealed.

3. Civilian Flights Allowed During Hostilities

Air Marshal Bharti criticised Pakistan for allowing civilian and international aircraft to fly out of Lahore during their attacks on May 8. He called the move “extremely insensitive,” stressing the risks it posed amidst escalating tensions.

4. Clarification on the Ceasefire

The military clarified that the ceasefire was not a long-term truce, but a temporary 36-hour halt to gunfire, primarily to manage the situation and assess immediate threats.

5. Five Brave Soldiers Martyred

Lieutenant General Ghai paid homage to the five Indian defence personnel who were martyred during the operation and Pakistan’s retaliatory attacks.

6. Clear Warning to Pakistan

Without disclosing operational details, Vice Admiral AN Pramod warned that any provocative action by Pakistan would be met with a firm and decisive Indian response.

7. Ceasefire Request Came from Pakistan

The briefing revealed that Pakistan initiated the ceasefire request through a hotline message sent by their DGMO, underscoring the pressure they faced following India’s retaliation.

8. Violation of LoC Post-Ceasefire

Soon after the ceasefire was agreed upon, Pakistan violated the Line of Control (LoC). Lieutenant General Ghai condemned the reckless attacks, highlighting the tragic impact on civilian areas, villages, and even religious sites like Gurudwaras.

Air Marshal Bharti underscored a key distinction: India targeted terrorist camps, while Pakistan deliberately attacked civilian zones. He called India’s response “precise and calibrated.”
