Continuing the principle of honouring the extraordinary contributions of ordinary Indians, this year's Padma Awards recognise many unsung heroes from every corner of India. Each awardee represents quiet, steadfast service that often goes unnoticed, yet makes a lasting difference.

Many have faced immense personal hardship and suffering, not only to excel in their chosen fields, but also to go on to serve society as a whole, including marginalized backward and Dalit communities, primitive tribes, and those from remote and difficult areas.
