Pahalgam Terror Attack LIVE Updates: As many as 26 tourists were killed in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, April 22, after terrorists opened fire at a group of terrorist. The deadly terror attack took place at a tourist resort in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, which is a key tourist attraction in Anantnag district of Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir Police and the armed forces cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive manhunt after the terror attack. The responsibility for the shooting was claimed by the The Resistance Force (TRF), which is an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and has links to terrorist Hafiz Saeed.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, calling it an "abomination" and the "worst kind of inhuman act." “I’m shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators are animals, inhuman and worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough,” Abdullah said on X. He extended his sympathies to the families of the victims and said he was returning to Srinagar immediately. Omar added that his party colleague Sakina Itoo had rushed to the hospital to oversee arrangements for the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a visit to Saudi Arabia, cut short his trip and will return to India on Wednesday morning. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who rushed to Srinagar amid the security threat, held a high-level meeting at the Raj Bhavan. The meet was attended by officials from the Army, CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
