Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar sparked a new controversy on Saturday for taking a dig at former Bihar chief minister Lalu Yadav for having “too many children”. The Bihar CM also accused Yadav of promoting dynasty politics by giving more opportunities to his children saying "Paida to bahut kar diya...Itna jyada paida karna chahiye kisi ko, bal bachcha (Should anybody have so many children)?"

Speaking at an election rally in Katihar in favour of NDA's Lok Sabha candidate Dulal Chandra Goswami, Nitish Kumar targeted Lalu Yadav’s political dynasty including his wife Rabri Devi, who became Bihar CM when Yadav had to step down due to a fodder scam conviction.

“Some people claim everything these days. They appointed their wives when they were removed. Now, it is their children these days. Ab paida to bahut kar diya. Itna zyaada paida karna chahiye kisi ko, baal baccha? (Does anybody beget so many children?" Nitish Kumar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

“Now they have involved their sons, daughters, and everyone. They keep saying something or other everywhere. They forget the old things, hence, I want to tell everyone that no work used to get done. People could not get out, there were no roads or education," Kumar further added.

In the Lok Sabha Election 2024, Lalu Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya is also making her political debut from Saran. Earlier, the RJD supremo’s elder sister, Misa Bharti, and two sons, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, had entered active politics. While Misa is a Rajya Sabha member, her brothers served as ministers in the previous Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) government.

Tejashwi’s Response

Reacting to Nitish Kumar’s remarks, Lalu Yadav’s son, Tejashwi Yadav asked if such remarks would benefit the people of Bihar. “He can say anything to us. Whatever he says is like a blessing for me... But the thing is, will such personal remarks benefit the people of Bihar... In elections, issues should be discussed... Who is writing such speeches for him? He should speak on education, employment and stopping migration," Tejashwi was quoted as saying by ANI.

Lalu Yadav's eldest daughter and RJD’s pick from the Patliputra Lok Sabha constituency, Misa Bharti said, “Now what should I say for uncle (Nitish Kumar)? The people of Bihar will see what the Chief Minister of the state is trying to say. What should we say about him? When PM Modi stopped speaking on dynastic politics, uncle started speaking.”
