Pakistan on Wednesday violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. Responding to unprovoked firing, the security forces strongly retaliated with cross firing.
Meanwhile, security forces also recovered an IED in Shopian, which was safely seized and deactivated. According to officials, the IED weighing about 6 kg was recovered from an orchard in Awneera village of the south Kashmir district during a search operation ahead of the Republic Day.
This comes at the heels of Operation Trashi-I, a joint mission of army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kishtwar district which lasted for three days ending in a major terror hideout bust.
The operation was launched on Monday in Sonar village near Mandral-Singhpora in the Chatru belt, officials said. One soldier made the supreme sacrifice while 7 other personnel were injured.

The Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorists hiding in the Kargil-style fortified bunker left behind 50 packets of Maggi, vegetables such as tomatoes and potatoes, spices of almost 15 types, 20 kg of high quality basmati rice, pulses, cooking gas, and dry wood at the hideout. The material seemed enough to provide for months.
What's behind rising terror activities?
The rising terror activities across the border and LoC confirm a major Pak-backed conspiracy. According to a report by Jagran.com, the terrorist organisations Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed are planning to launch a major terrorist attack in the near future in a major city across the country, including Jammu and Kashmir.
They are receiving support from Pakistan Army and ISI. An earlier report claimed, the security forces had received intelligence reports on the presence of Pakistani terrorists in the dense forest and hilly areas of Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and Reasi in the Jammu division.
The security forces have since maintained a sharp eye and enhanced vigilance in the area.
