Patna News: The Central Government is preparing to announce a significant development for the people of Bihar, with the approval of two expressways expected soon. This month, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is set to finalise the alignments for the Raxaul-Haldia and Gorakhpur-Siliguri expressways.
Bihar Expressways: MoRTH Committee to Review Proposed Routes
The alignment committee of MoRTH will review the proposed routes for these expressways, which will enhance connectivity between Bihar and three neighbouring states.
Raxaul-Haldia Expressway to Boost Trade
The Raxaul-Haldia Expressway is particularly crucial for economic development. It will establish a direct link between Bihar and Haldia Port in West Bengal, facilitating trade with Nepal. Envisioned as a six-lane highway, this expressway will span 650 km and traverse several districts in Bihar, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Saran, Patna, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Jamui and Banka. Once constructed, it will significantly boost economic activities across these areas.
According to sources from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), land acquisition procedures will commence once the alignment is officially approved.
Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway To Enhance Regional Connectivity
The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will also play a vital role in improving connectivity. The draft alignment for this expressway has been submitted to the MoRTH committee and will pass through a substantial portion of Bihar. Starting from the ring road in Gorakhpur, it will traverse East Champaran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj before reaching West Bengal. This route will link districts from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal.
In a related development, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has recently approved the alignment for the Mokama-Munger greenfield four-lane road. This project is now progressing towards land acquisition, which will provide much-needed convenience to local residents once completed.
