  3. Rajkot police arrested accused Piyush Kharwar for murder.

A love story that started on social media ended in a murder in Gujarat's Rajkot after the man found out that the person he loved, accepted as a wife, was not a woman but a man.

The case came to light after police found a badly decomposed body dressed in women's clothes near the Muscat Gate railway wall on June 25. Initially, it was considered an accidental death, but post-mortem revealed serious head injuries, prompting a detailed investigation into the murder case.

Police reviewed CCTV footage and used ground intelligence to track down the accused, 20-year-old Piyush Kumar Kharwar, who confessed to the crime during interrogation. The police arrested Piyush.

The deceased was identified as Chandan Kumar, who came into contact with Piyush, living in Hyderabad, through social media. His accounts were named 'Nisha Kumar' on Facebook and 'Poonam' on Instagram.

Chandan posed as a woman and gained Piyush's trust. The social media friendship soon turned into a love relationship.

Chandan met Piyush in woman's attire, and soon they started living with each other. Piyush had accepted Chandan as his wife and even appied vermilion to her forehead as a ritual.

Chandan, on the other hand, avoided physical intimacy with Piyush, citing religious vows. Piyush got to know the truth after he saw Chandan shaving and realised that his partner was actually a man who wanted a homosexual relationship.

Piyush fled but Chandan continued to pursue him

According to a Gujarati Jagran report, tensions between the two escalated after Piyush confronted him. Following this, Piyush left Chandan and fled. However, Chandan continued to pursue Piyush from Uttar Pradesh to Rajasthan and finally to Gujarat, reaching a factory in Padwala, Rajkot.

On June 21, the two argued at Piyush's workplace. Piyush then took Chandan to a secluded area near the railway tracks, where he bludgeoned him to death with large stones. He hid the body under the stones and returned to work for his shift.
