It has almost been a year since the massive crash in Ahmedabad occurred, where at least 260 people have lost their lives. Air India Flight AI 171 (Boeing 787-8) crashed into the medical hostel premises in Meghaninagar near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. At least 19 locals also lost their lives in the tragic incident. Of those, one had been identified as Mahesh Jirwala, a 34-year-old local filmmaker from Ahmedabad.
How Did The Accident Occur?
On June 12, 2025, Jirwala was returning home on his bike after completing his work. According to Gujarati Jagran, a plane suddenly crashed on his way and killed him on the spot.
The police had scanned all the CCTV footage around the area for four days. Jirawala was captured in one of the footages. The 34-year-old man's body was recovered with his bike in the burnt debris of the plane.
The emerging filmmaker tied the knot with a woman named Hetal just three months before the accident. Jirwala's father Girdharbhai (61) said that his son Jirawala suffered from a heart attack just two weeks before his death. The 61-year-old diamond polisher mentioned that Jirawala asked him to retire and rest at home, saying he'll pay off all his debts.
The family received a sum of Rs 1.29 crore in financial compensation from Air India, Tata group and the Gujarat government. Of the total amount, Hetal received Rs 54 lakh and left with her parents.

Of the remaining Rs 75 lakh, the father paid off the debt of Rs 15 lakh. He fulfilled his last wish of purchasing a new house for Rs 45 lakh.
