A special court for MPs/MLAs on July 31 convicted the Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna for sexually assaulting his house help. The special court said it will announce the quantum of punishment against Revanna on Saturday. The trial in the case concluded on July 18, and the court reserved its judgment on July 30, stating the need for certain clarifications. The court examined Revanna and all 26 witnesses and charged him under various sections, including rape, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and unlawful circulation of intimate images.

Prajwal Revanna, 34, the grandson of ex-Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, was convicted by the court for raping his house help. A woman who worked as a house help at Revanna’s family’s farmhouse accused him of repeatedly raping her since 2021 and threatening to release the video of the abuse if she opened up about the incident to anyone. He was arrested by the police on May 31, 2024.

A case was filed based on a complaint by a 47-year-old domestic worker at the Holenarasipura Town Police Station in Hassan on April 28, 2024. She alleged rape and harassment by Prajwal Revanna.

Revanna is the prime accused in three other criminal cases filed in 2024, after over 2,000 obscene video clips, allegedly showing the sexual abuse of several women, surfaced on social media. Prajwal fled the country on April 27, 2024, shortly after his conduct came to light.

He failed to retain Karantaka’s Hassan parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Following criminal cases against Revanna, the JD(S) also suspended him from the party.
